April Athlete Spotlight

Mike Johnson

I first met Mike during one of our 6-Week New You Challenges a year ago.  Like most people that came into the gym, Mike wasn’t happy with his current appearance and the state of his overall health.  He asked me, “Do you really think people can lose significant weight in 6-weeks?” I told him about our large group of success stories and the weight they had lost.  We talked about how the coaches at CFAF will give you all the tools you need, but ultimately you had to do the work. He was willing to give it a shot.

When Mike started with us he was about 6 months sober.  He had moved East from San Diego many years ago and due to his working from home and having a family, he didn’t know many people around.  Like many people, myself included, Mike got to friendly with the bottle.  It made for some rough times for him and his family.  Fast forward to April of 2017 and when Mike and I were done discussing the fitness component to the challenge, the real reason he was here came out. He told me he was sober and had been for 6 months or so.  I asked him, “Why are you really here Mike?” Though he did really want to get in better shape and look the part, he wanted to do it for his family.  He wanted to walk the walk and talk the talk as a better role model for his boys.  He is now 1.5+ years sober!

The picture attached to this write up shows a few things:

1. He’s walking the walk and talking the talk

2. He’s looking healthier and stronger as he gets “older”

3. The 6-Week Challenge and continued hard work did pay off

Mike it’s been a pleasure working with you over the last year.  Your growth as an athlete has been nothing short of impressive.  I look forward to working with you moving forward and helping you reach the highest of your capabilities.
