Crossfit (and Crossfit Ad Finem specifically) as a single entity has given me more in my life than I ever expected. I truly hated Crossfit when I first started looking into getting fit. I was never really a fan of truly pushing boundaries in any part of my life, especially physical (and mental) fitness. It was scary, intense, and worst of all- hard! Instead of actually seeing for myself, I resorted to the much safer and more comfortable option of making fun of it from my couch as I ballooned past 250lb on the scale and “ran” on a treadmill for 15 minutes twice a week. After a particularly poor annual check-up, I decided enough was enough. Status quo was no longer going to cut it. I was introduced to Mat Cote and Crossfit by my brother-in-law soon after. As a large gentleman, my first foray into a ‘WOD’ ended exactly as you’d expect- fetal position on the floor and sore for 4 days. Something ‘big picture’ changed during that hour though. I was out of breath, miserable, and most importantly- really freaking excited to get back in there and do it again! Even to this day, that feeling of excited anticipation follows every time I step foot into the box.

Crossfit has given me so much more than me being in the best shape of my life. It’s made me mentally tougher, it’s forged friendships that I consider sacred, it’s given me the self-confidence to be truly happy with myself for the first time in my life, ever. It’s changed my life, as cliché as it sounds, and all for the better. Becoming a coach has only fueled my desire to not only improve others, but myself in the process. I hope to transform others as I’ve transformed- safely, efficiently, and all the while having loads of fun on the way! I revel in others’ personal milestones more-so than my own, and I truly enjoy getting to know all of my athletes personally- studying how they move and working with them to improve themselves. Crossfit has gone from a punchline in my life to one of the most integral parts of it, and I hope to impart my knowledge and attitude on to others as a coach.
